Accidental find

by: ROB on Mon, May 28 2007

Hi..This is my first time on so I’ll try to explain my story as best as possible..About two months ago I was struggling with some siatic [sciatic] nerve pain on the left side of my body so I was referred for a ct scan…the results which followed would change life instantly! The scan found a decent mass on my right kidney and it was recommended that I go get a abdominal scan to further investigate the find.

Anyhow the next scan reveiled what seemed to be in doctors terms suspicious renal cell tumour! Well after that was explained to me I was truly gobsmacked..I’m 38yrs old!! What the hell happens from here? After further visits to the hospital it was found that the tumour was confined to the right kidney and all other surroundings looked clear..Because of the size of the tumour it was recommended I have the kidney removed..The tumour size was 38mm! Within 2 weeks my operation date had been set..A very nervous time for me and my family.

Anyway 2 weeks after the operation the biopsy results have reveiled that it was clear cell cancer at its earliest stage. there are 4 stages of kidney cancer and this was found to be stage T1. A very good prognosis considering..So I guess my story is all about facing your fears head on and dealing with what ever comes. Oh by the way as scary as the lead up to the op was everthing has gone well and after three weeks I’ll be back at work on Monday…Hope this sheds some light on similar circumstances with any others that are dealing with this..
