To quickly access health information from your website's browser, download kidney stones My first kidney stone attack was 27 years ago when I was pregnant with my docter. They could not see it when I was pregnant and while giving birth I told the doctor that the pain I was feeling was more than just labour pains and he just laughed telling me that I forgot how it felt from the last child birth. The pain kept getting worst and I finally went to the ER 8 months later. They took an x-ray and unrines samples. The x-ray came back negative but they could tell by the urine that there was something wrong. They called the urologist who showed up 6 hours later. He had the x-rays brought to his office and he just pick up the phone and blasted the technicien. He showed me the x-ray and the stone was the size of a quater. Needless to say the had to crush the stone and I went through the procedure 2 days later. While in the hospital, after the procudere I was still in pain to the point that I passed out. The doctor kept me there 1 day more..telling me that not everybody tolerates pain in the same way. I went home and the pain kept getting worst. I was shaking and could not walk. My husband took me to the ER where they kept me for 5 days. The doctor just increased the demerol and said that I did not tolerate pain very well. On the 5th day I got up to go to the bathroom and did not make it. Another doctor who was on duty came to see me and sent me for an x-ray. One hour later he came to tell me that the J tube that was inserted had perforated the uterer and it was blocking my kidney and he scheduled me for surgery the next day at 7AM on a saturday, telling me that my kidney was ready to explode. After the surgery he told me that he did not replace the J tube because the uterer was too fragile and that it would have to heal on its own. Well, the 1st docter who said that I could not tolerate pain came back and even though I no longer wanted him to treat me he said that policy was that I was his patient and he would continue to treat me. (the other doctor went on holidays). He also told me that I would have to stay in the hospital for 3 weeks , taking antibiotics to make sure that there was not infection and then he would remove the J tube. I told him that I did not have a J tube but he insisted that there was…3 weeks later, I was ready to go home and instead the doctor schedualed me for surgery. That was enough for me…I told them I was leaving the hospital and I wanted my file. He later came up from surgery and signed my out. No appology, no explanation but I knew better. This is Canada for you folks…I had no recorse I was ok for 5 years and then I started to have stones about every 2-3 years. In the last 2 years I have had them every few months, had kidney infections, and have had to be hospitalized 5 times. I watch what I eat, no red meat, white bread, dairy products, etc but I am 50 years old now and very active and this just weighs me down. I find that doctors don’t give much information. They claim to have sent the stones to the lab but have nothing in their files. Went for some urine and blood tests 3 months ago and still have no results. I just came back from the hospital again today and am waiting for an appointment with a Urologist which will take over a month again. So, today I am on the internet trying to find out more about my condition and looking for a natural approach to possibly taking control of my condition. Looking towards a better future. February 2008
